Years ago, I had a Valentine’s Day that changed how I understood love — and not for the better. I was dressed, ready, and waiting for someone who told me he was coming. He kept saying he was on the way. He never came. I sat there waiting — disappointed, embarrassed, angry, and deeply hurt. What broke me wasn’t just being stood up. What broke me was what that moment did inside of me.

One single day opened the door to more darkness — bitterness, anger, and a desire for revenge. Not because I was evil, but because I had believed a lie about love: that it was proven by showing up, choosing me, and validating me. That Valentine’s Day didn’t just hurt my feelings — it distorted my understanding of love. I have discovered that many people experience the same thing every February, even if the details look different.
